MAPPING MY PODCAST

Before picking up the microphone and beginning my interviews, before taking pencil to paper to write out the questions I would ask my interviewees, before even confirming with my mom and Claire that they had an interest in helping me with this project, I created my storyboard.  This piece of planning, simple as it might be, served as a crucial guide that helped me organize my thoughts as I began taking steps to creating my podcast.

As is obvious from a cursory glance at this document, my storyboard was only a skeleton of what my podcast was meant to become.  Still, I found value in laying out the chronology of my piece and in determining approximately how long I wanted each of my segments to last.  Eventually, this chronology and timing both changed, as I flipped the order of the interviews in order to end with a popular perspective and my interview segments took over as the dominant features of my piece.  Still, framing my piece early in the writing process made it considerably easier to take on the next section of my project, the rough cut.
